Triathlon Training

Triathlon training is becoming increasingly popular throughout the world.  Training for three different sports is beneficial in a variety of ways.  If you are training for the run, you will be putting a lot of pressure on your knees.  Adding swim training to the mix will lighten the load on your knees and joints.  Training on the bike will also add another element to your training program.   Whether you are a beginner triathlete or looking to be very competitive in this rapidly growing sport, you will likely have a great deal of fun.

Why is Triathlon Training Becoming Popular?

One of the reasons why the sport of triathlon is becoming more popular each year is that it is tough.  People who would usually dominate in local 5k’s or other road races might not be as good at biking or swimming.  Athletes who excel in the swim will be able to get a lead on competitors early on in the race.  If you are good at biking, you will be able to catch competitors before you get to the run.  The sport of triathlon is challenging and having three sports combined into one means that you will always be able to improve at something.

Are You Looking for Triathlon Training Programs?

If you are looking for triathlon training programs, you will see a wide variety of options available for you online, in magazines, or at your local fitness center.  It doesn’t matter if you are training for your first sprint triathlon, an Olympic distance triathlon, a half Ironman,  an Ironman, or any triathlon distances, you will want to be sure that you have a solid triathlon training schedule in place.

A major mistake that a lot of beginner triathletes make is that they concentrate on training for their favorite portion of the event.  For example, if you were a distance running star in high school, maybe you want to focus mostly on running.  The same goes for a swimmer or biker.  If you know that you are better at one leg of the race than another, you may find yourself concentrating on that particular leg and neglecting the ones that you actually need the most improvements.

Most people would like to get to the finish line faster.  In other words, just because you are better at running than biking or swimming doesn’t mean you should focus on that.  In order to make the biggest time gains, good triathlon training programs will have you focusing on your weakest parts first.  Consider these tips when coming up with your triathlon training schedule.
